Will AI Make Junior Developers Obsolete? Why Loving Your Craft Is Your Only Edge
It is time to talk about the future of many professions, especially software engineers and developers.
I believe that soon junior and then middle level specialists will become unnecessary. Why? Simply because of the accelerating progress in AI.
Very soon I will be able to hire a junior level backend developer, a junior level frontend developer, and a junior level marketing specialist for just $20 per month.
What should you do right now if you are not even at junior level yet? As an entrepreneur running my own company (Improvy OÜ) and a hired team lead DevOps engineer in a big international company, I recommend learning to understand your profession better than AI.
This means you must be a strong team player and know almost everything about the business processes in the company you will work for. And you must remain human.
If you want to be a software engineer, developer, marketer or artist only for the money, it leads nowhere, and AI will easily replace you. But if you choose your profession because you love it and want to become one of the best in it, you are more than welcome.
